- Develop and write CNC lathe programs using CAM software and G-code for complex machining operations, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical schematics to accurately produce parts with precise dimensions.
- Set up CNC lathes by selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters; verify machine readiness before production runs.
- Conduct in-process inspections utilizing precision measuring instruments such as bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and bore gauges to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Optimize machining processes through lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance productivity.
- Troubleshoot machine issues related to electrical discharge machining (EDM), tooling wear, or programming errors; perform adjustments to maintain optimal performance.
- Collaborate with design engineers using CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA to review designs and suggest manufacturability improvements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of programs, setup procedures, inspection reports, and process changes for quality assurance and traceability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing machining processes and implementing best practices for efficiency and precision.
- Proficiency in CNC programming for lathe operations using Fanuc controls; familiarity with other control systems is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA for designing parts and developing machining strategies.
- Deep understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T principles, schematics, and technical drawings to interpret complex specifications accurately.
- Experience with CNC milling machines alongside lathes is advantageous for versatile manufacturing capabilities.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other mechanical measurement tools.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes for intricate or hard-to-machine components.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of tooling selection, geometry considerations, schematics interpretation, and machine maintenance.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles aimed at reducing waste and streamlining production workflows.
- Strong math skills necessary for calculating feeds, speeds, tolerances, and geometric dimensions critical to high-quality machining.
