What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial & Industrial Designer III (US) position at ecolab?
The CAD Designer II is a fully trained, early-career designer who works largely autonomously on assigned design tasks and project scopes, with periodic review from Senior or Lead Designers. This role is responsible for producing accurate 3D models and fabrication drawings for Ovivo water and wastewater treatment equipment, while developing deeper proficiency in CAD tools, design standards, and skid constructability.
A successful CAD Designer II demonstrates solid technical judgment, low rework rates, and the ability to manage their own deliverables within project schedules. They begin contributing beyond task execution by identifying issues early, coordinating with peers, and supporting junior designers as needed.
We are looking for a skilled individual that is excited to be a part of changing how the world views our most critical resource – Water.
HERE'S WHAT YOU WILL DO:
· Produce accurate 3D models and fabrication drawings including skid GAs, frame drawings, ISO/spool drawings, and layouts using Ovivo CAD standards
· Design and model a wide range of treatment skids (e.g., pump skids, filtration skids, face piping, interconnecting piping and supports)
· Review project drawings, P&IDs, and specifications to identify scope requirements and constraints
· Execute design work in both Metric and Imperial units, as required by project scope.
· Track assigned design tasks and meet agreed deliverable dates, escalating risks early when conflicts arise
· Perform self‑checks using design checklists to minimize errors, omissions, and rework
· Participate in project and design review meetings and follow up on assigned action items
· Collaborate with Senior Designers, Lead Designers, and Engineering to clarify scope, standards, and constructability concerns
· Support junior designers through informal guidance, knowledge sharing, and peer reviews when requested
· Maintain professionalism when handling business‑sensitive and confidential information
· Perform all work in accordance with established quality (ISO 9001:2015) and safety procedures.
· Other duties may be assigned as required.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS WILL INCLUDE:
· Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AdvancedSteel (proficiency in at least one; working knowledge of others preferred)
· Ability to create clear, buildable fabrication drawings with attention to detail and constructability
· Strong understanding of P&IDs, equipment layouts, and piping components
· Familiarity with fabrication and skid assembly practices and how design details impact shop execution
· Competence using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for coordination and basic analysis
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL POSSESS:
· Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
· Typically 2–5 years of CAD design experience in industrial equipment, process systems, or skid‑based design environments
· Hands on experience in fabrication/assembly shops is a plus
WILL I NEED TO TRAVEL:
· No typically required travel except to a local fabrication shop.
