Certification Decision Officer (Organic Certification)
Remote, Full-Time, Exempt | Ecocert USA
Ecocert, a global leader in organic and sustainable certification, has an immediate USA opening for a Certification Decision Officer (CDO). This full-time, remote professional position is responsible for evaluating inspection reports and application materials, making certification determinations, and applying organic regulations with accuracy and consistency.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of food systems and agricultural practices especially within the organic sector along with a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach. Backgrounds in agriculture, livestock production, food science, or related fields are preferred. Clear judgment, regulatory literacy, and effective communication skills are critical for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate farm, livestock, and/or handling system plans, inspection reports, and compliance documentation in alignment with organic standards (e.g., USDA NOP, international equivalency programs).
- Issue certification decisions and compliance determinations consistent with applicable regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices.
- Communicate certification results, required corrective actions, and technical information clearly and professionally to clients and colleagues via phone, email, and video communications.
- Approve agricultural inputs, labels, ingredients, and recipes for compliance with organic regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized client documentation to support auditability.
- Stay current with organic regulatory and policy updates to support both internal training and client education.
- Contribute to internal quality system activities, cross-training, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in agriculture, food science, chemistry, biology, or related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of food production systems and ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and consistency.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a remote, multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with database systems (especially Intact) is a plus.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with both crop and livestock production systems.
- Experience in food processing or quality assurance systems.
- Prior regulatory, auditing, or certification body experience.
