Position Summary: This position involves operating dozers and other heavy equipment on construction and environmental job sites across multiple locations. Steady, long-term work is available with competitive pay and benefits. Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for safely and efficiently operating dozers and other heavy equipment to support erosion control and site stabilization projects. This role includes performing grading and site preparation, assisting with erosion control installations such as slope preparation, access road construction, and material placement.
The operator works under the direction of the Superintendent, follows project plans, and helps the crew meet daily production and quality targets on active construction sites.
Daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance are required to keep machinery operating safely and reliably.
Travel to out-of-town job sites is expected as needed, with per diem provided.
Equipment Operation
Operate assigned equipment, which may include excavators, skid steers, dozers, loaders, backhoes, trenchers, vacuum trucks, and compaction equipment
Work from project plans, drawings, and specifications
Set and verify grades, slopes, and material placement as directed
Move between equipment types and jobsites based on daily assignments
Safety
Follow OSHA and company safety requirements
Take part in daily safety briefings
Report hazards and near misses to the Superintendent
Wear required PPE
Stop work when conditions are unsafe
Equipment Inspection & Care
Complete daily pre-operation inspections and submit inspection reports
Report maintenance and repair needs promptly
Keep assigned equipment clean and serviced
Operate equipment within its rated capacity
Production & Quality
Complete assigned tasks accurately and keep pace with the daily plan
Limit idle time and avoidable downtime
Coordinate with laborers, foremen, and other operators
Assist with loading and unloading materials
Report field conditions that don't match the plan
Required Qualifications
2 years operating heavy equipment on construction or site work
Valid driver's license
Ability to read basic construction plans and grade stakes
Situational awareness on active jobsites with equipment, crews, and traffic
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and on uneven terrain
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen [confirm]
Preferred
Erosion control, hydroseeding, or land-disturbance experience
OSHA 10
CDL, Class A or B
Basic mechanical knowledge — greasing, fluid checks, minor field repairs
Comfort using a smartphone or tablet for time entry and inspection reports
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Operating equipment for extended periods; climbing on and off equipment; lifting up to [50] lbs
