Industrial Engineer

Position Overview

Eck Industries is seeking a driven, hands-on Industrial Engineer to strengthen operational discipline, increase throughput, and improve profitability across our aluminum casting operations.

This role is critical to advancing Eck’s manufacturing excellence. The Industrial Engineer will play a central role in establishing and maintaining accurate labor standards through rigorous time studies, while also improving process flow, part routings, and costing accuracy. Responsibilities include performing time and motion studies, developing and maintaining labor standards, assisting in the design of efficient work cells, and creating clear work instructions for production employees.

Unlike large corporate engineering roles that focus on a narrow slice of the operation, this position offers direct ownership of labor standards, time studies, and plant throughput across the foundry, with the opportunity to implement improvements quickly and see the results on the shop floor.

Core Responsibilities

Time Studies & Labor Standards

  • Lead the plant’s time study program, ensuring accurate and consistent labor standards across operations
  • Perform detailed time and motion studies on production processes to establish and validate labor standards
  • Analyze work content, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process improvements based on observed data
  • Maintain and update labor standards within the ERP system and ensure routings reflect actual production conditions
  • Partner with supervisors and operators to ensure standards are realistic, clearly understood, and consistently applied
  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure standards remain accurate as processes, equipment, or staffing change

Operational Excellence & Process Flow

  • Optimize end-to-end process flow across aluminum casting operations
  • Analyze and improve plant layouts, machine placement, and material movement
  • Control, audit, and continuously improve part routings within the ERP system
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement sustainable throughput improvements
  • Lead plant-wide efficiency initiatives aligned with safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals

Costing & Profitability Improvement

  • Maintain accurate standardized part costing models
  • Use time study data to ensure labor assumptions in costing models reflect real production performance
  • Apply DMAIC methodology to eliminate waste and improve margins
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to drive cost transparency and accountability

Standard Work & Systems Development

  • Create, maintain, and improve SOPs and work instructions
  • Ensure time studies are completed timely and annual routing audits are executed
  • Implement systems thinking to improve plant-wide coordination
  • Improve tracking of downtime, OEE, capacity utilization, and routing accuracy

New Product & Process Readiness

  • Support new product introduction with accurate routings and labor standards
  • Ensure manufacturing readiness for aerospace, defense, and transportation customers
  • Partner with Engineering and Quality to proactively eliminate launch risk

What Success Looks Like at Eck

  • Accurate and trusted labor standards across the plant
  • Improved throughput and reduced lead times
  • Routings and costing models that reflect real production performance
  • Measurable margin expansion through improved labor productivity
  • Strong collaboration across production, quality, maintenance, and leadership
  • A visible presence on the shop floor driving continuous improvement

Required Attributes

  • Hands-on mindset; comfortable in a high-temperature foundry environment
  • Strong cross-functional leadership capability
  • Data-driven decision maker with sound engineering logic
  • Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels
  • High accountability and ownership mentality
  • Ability to operate in a fast-moving, continuously improving manufacturing environment
  • Self-motivated and committed to professional growth
  • Systems thinker who evaluates upstream and downstream impacts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering (or related field)
  • 3–7 years of manufacturing experience (metal casting preferred)
  • Experience in aluminum casting or heavy manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency in:
  • Time & Motion Studies
  • ERP systems and part routing control
  • Standardized part costing
  • Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma
