Position Description: The SUE Field Technician - Level II works closely with the SUE Tech I and SUE Tech III to complete utility identification, location and marking assignments in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires a self-starter with a positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to train and mentor others. Responsibilities include a combination of the following, but are not limited to:
Field Work: Uses and assists using surface geophysical instruments and vacuum excavators to efficiently and safely conduct tracing and marking of utilities, excavation of trenches and or holes to expose utilities, in addition to setting up and assisting with proper safe work zone and proper maintenance of traffic. Performs a vast portion of all site work, and some portion of pre and post-fieldwork inspections, quality assurance and quality control. Uses gathered utility information, or project information to appropriately assist planning and executing the most efficient field operation. Assists the SUE Tech III as needed with field activity logs and results, safety forms, and permits. Leads a portion of the work as needed by specific project assignments.
Operations Support: Performs appropriate maintenance of assigned equipment, tools and cleanliness, organization and stocking of warehouse spaces, as directed by the SUE Tech III and SUE Field Manager and assisted by others. Promotes a sound safety culture based on understanding risks and hazards and taking appropriate action.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Position requires great flexibility, with the possibility of out-of-town travel as needed by specific projects
- Ability to perform physical work and lift and carry heavy equipment when required
- Understanding of utility construction and functioning of utility systems. Ability to read utility records information and Maintenance of Traffic plans.
- Knowledge and understanding of surface geophysical instruments and technology and vacuum excavation systems.
- Three (3) years of prior utility marking and locating work experience.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and clean driving record
- Experience as utility site laborer is a plus.
