Position Summary:
As a Speech Language Pathologist, this position involves providing treatments to patients by evaluating their function and selecting appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. This includes participating in an interdisciplinary approach for in-service education and community outreach, as well as the clinical education of affiliating students. The role may also involve cross-site coverage.
Education and Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of a Master's degree
- Holds current licensure for Speech Language Pathology in Connecticut
- Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Key Competencies:
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Basic personal computer skills in Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients based on departmental standards
- Conduct and modify evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity level, and medical status
- Establish individualized, measurable goals for each patient
- Treat patients with appropriate therapeutic techniques
- Administer physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutic technique to attain established goals
- Utilize effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity
- Educate patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities
- Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommend discharge if appropriate
- Document patient care according to insurance guidelines and adhere to departmental policies and procedures
- Foster interdepartmental communication and communicate with referring physicians regarding patient care
- Accurately fill out and submit charges daily
- Adhere to professional code of ethics established by ASHA and the facility
- Perform duties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries
- Supervise affiliated students and participate in continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques
