Job Summary :
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Outdoor Boiler Technician to perform cleanings, service calls, and assist with installations of outdoor boiler systems. This per diem position requires technical expertise, a commitment to safety, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to represent the company at events. The role includes the use of a company vehicle, requiring a valid driver’s license and adhering to vehicle-related responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have experience with HVAC or boiler systems and be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
· Cleanings: Perform thorough cleaning and maintenance of outdoor boilers, including ash removal, heat exchanger cleaning, and inspection of components to ensure optimal performance.
· Service Calls: Diagnose and repair issues with outdoor boiler systems, addressing customer concerns promptly and effectively. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or plumbing issues.
· Installation Assistance: Support the installation team by preparing the job sites, handling materials, assembling components, and ensuring installations meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
· Vendor Fairs: Represent the company at vendor fairs engaging with customers, demonstrating products, and answering questions. Assist with the setup and take down of booths, displays, and equipment.
· Company Vehicle Utilization: Operate and maintain a company-provided vehicle for travel to customer sites, vendor fairs, and other work-related locations. Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring the vehicle is kept clean, organized, and in good working condition.
2. Perform basic vehicle inspections (e.g. checking fuel, oil, tires) and reporting any maintenance needs promptly.
3. Adhering to all traffic laws and company policies while driving.
4. Safely transporting tools, equipment and materials to job sites.
· Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with customers during service calls and at events, providing clear explanations of services, product features, and system care recommendations.
· Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with OSHA and company safety guidelines.
· Documentation: Take notes on jobs performed, and parts removed or installed, as well as upload pictures onto the company program within the same day of the work performed.
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in HVAC, boiler systems, or a related field preferred but not necessary.
· 1-2 years of experience working with outdoor boilers, HVAC systems, or similar equipment.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
· Familiarity with electrical and plumbing systems related to boilers.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; must be eligible to operate a company vehicle alone.
· Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
· Excellent communication and customer service skills.
· Basic computer skills for completing digital service notes and uploading pictures, as well as FireStar knowledge.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings for vendor fairs.
Work Environment:
· Primarily outdoor work at customer sites, involving exposure to weather elements.
· Requires physical stamina for lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
· Frequent driving within Eastern CT, all of RI, and MA.
Compensation:
· Per diem pay based on hours worked.
· If the utilization of a personal vehicle is needed, mileage reimbursement will be $0.70 per mile.
