Description

Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant - Floater

Locations: ECPC Pain Specialists in the following areas: Kings Mountain, Belmont, Denver, Charlotte Midtown, Charlotte Southpark, and the Charlotte Ballantyne area

Organization: ECPC - Pain Specialists

Schedule: Part Time (Hourly) PRN (as needed)

Reports to: Director of Clinical Operations

Starting Salary: Commensurate with experience and willingness to travel to all clinics

Schedule: Part Time, Flexible, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (as needed)

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides safe, compassionate, and efficient clinical support to physicians and advanced practice providers in an outpatient pain management setting. The MA assists with patient care before, during, and after office visits and interventional pain procedures while maintaining compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, Medicare regulations, infection prevention standards, and practice policies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms.
  • Escort patients and verify identity using two identifiers.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain score, medication reconciliation, allergies, social history and preferred pharmacy.
  • Review and update medical history.
  • Assist providers during examinations and office procedures.
  • Prepare sterile supplies and equipment and assist with patient positioning.
  • Perform EKGs and CLIA-waived testing when trained and authorized.
  • Apply dressings and remove sutures/staples when ordered and permitted.

Procedure Support

  • Assist with epidural steroid injections, facet injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablations, sacroiliac joint injections, joint injections, trigger point injections, peripheral nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulator trials, and other office-based interventional procedures.
  • Prepare sterile fields, set up equipment, assist during procedures, and perform room turnover.

Medication Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications for provider verification within scope of practice.
  • Document administered medications as appropriate.
  • Monitor inventory, expiration dates, refrigerator logs, and controlled substance handling per policy.

Documentation

  • Document clinical information accurately in the EMR.
  • Enter orders per protocol, complete telephone encounters, prior authorizations (when assigned), and imaging/lab tracking.

Patient Education

  • Educate patients on procedure preparation, blood thinner instructions, driver requirements, infection prevention, post-procedure care, medication instructions, and follow-up.

Infection Prevention

  • Follow hand hygiene, PPE, sterile technique, disinfection, sharps disposal, and autoclave procedures.

Inventory Responsibilities

  • Stock rooms, rotate supplies, remove expired items, assist with inventory, and report shortages.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule procedures, process referrals, obtain prior authorizations, manage records, prepare charts, and assist with refill requests per protocol.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Current CMA, RMA, NCMA, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Current BLS certification
  • EMR experience (eClinicalWorks preferred)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of outpatient clinical experience
  • Pain management experience
  • Procedure room experience
  • Experience with fluoroscopy procedures and Medicare patients

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, lift to 30 pounds, assist patients with mobility, perform repetitive hand movements, wear radiation protection gear and appropriate PPE.
