Job Summary:
The Machining Manager oversees all CNC machining operations, including programming, setup, and production, to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing processes. This position leads a team of machinists and programmers, optimizes workflow, ensures compliance with ISO and FDA requirements, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the machine shop.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Supervise CNC machinists, setup technicians, and programmers, providing direction, training, and performance feedback.
· Coordinate production schedules to meet delivery timelines and maintain efficiency across all machining operations.
· Partner with engineering, quality, and production departments to resolve manufacturing challenges and implement process improvements.
· Oversee preventive maintenance and ensure all CNC equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
· Monitor department performance metrics (OEE, scrap, efficiency) and implement corrective actions as needed.
· Oversee setup and operation of multi-axis CNC mills, swiss, lathes, and EDMs to ensure parts meet tight tolerance requirements.
· Manage and optimize CNC programming using MasterCAM and/or other CAM systems to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.
· Review and interpret prints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications to guide programming and machining decisions.
· Ensure tooling, fixtures, and process documentation are current, accurate, and compliant with internal and regulatory standards.
· Troubleshoot complex machining and programming issues and lead root-cause investigations.
· Drive process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives in machining operations.
· Maintain compliance with ISO 13485, FDA, and Cal/OSHA safety requirements.
· Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure parts meet inspection and documentation standards.
· Implement and enforce adherence to company safety policies and 5S workplace organization.
Experience:
- 5 years CNC machining and programming experience (medical device or precision manufacturing environment preferred).
- 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role managing CNC operations.
- Strong working knowledge of MasterCAM or other common CAM controls.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, G & M codes, and GD&T.
- Proven experience in process improvement and lean manufacturing principles.

· Working knowledge of machining materials such as stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, plastics, and cobalt chrome.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing documentation systems (ERP/MRP).
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to a variety of varying weather conditions, trash, waste, chemicals and other materials. The noise level in the work environment and facility grounds can be loud.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 40lbs; pull/push up to 60 lbs, grasp small device/ products and identify very small variations in the product. Sight is required for observing work and production. May spend several hours using a computer to create reports, analyze data and respond to inquiries and issues. May be exposed to active machinery and moving equipment, dust. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
