Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists and hygienists during various procedures, including cleanings, examinations, and restorative treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring patient comfort and safety while adhering to HIPAA regulations for medical documentation privacy.
- Collect vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates before procedures to assist in comprehensive patient assessments.
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix , updating patient histories, treatment notes, and medical coding details precisely.
- Support front desk operations by managing appointment scheduling as a dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and assisting with patient check-in/out processes.
- Uphold strict infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, for managing medical records and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and general dentistry procedures to effectively assist during treatments.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry practices and working with children in a clinical setting.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety standards.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols including aseptic technique and sterilization processes.
- Knowledge of dental assisting techniques such as chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and taking vital signs.
- Understanding of medical terminology relevant to dental care, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other specialties within dentistry.
- Competence in using dental imaging tools like 3D scanners for advanced diagnostics.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental hygienists, receptionists, and specialists in pediatrics or general dentistry.
