The Division of Community Health Services is seeking a Dental Public Health Office Assistant to support clerical and front-office operations in health department dental clinics. This role helps ensure smooth patient flow, accurate records, strong customer service, and effective coordination of dental services across assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities Schedule and manage patient appointments, including check-in, check-out, reminders, follow-up calls, and visit requirement communication. Register patients by collecting and updating demographic information and reviewing documentation for eligibility in federal and state programs. Enter and retrieve information using health department management systems and other required software platforms. Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, insurance documentation, and medical information release approvals as required. Compile forms, scan and index records into the electronic dental record, and support efficient clinic flow. Process and balance the cash drawer while following fiscal responsibility procedures. Inform clients of program rights and responsibilities and maintain a positive, cooperative work environment. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of full-time customer service, clerical, or office work experience. Current driver’s license. Successful Tennessee Bureau of Investigation background check. Accredited college or university coursework may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis, up to two years. Preferred Qualifications Active Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant license preferred, along with dental front-office experience, knowledge of dental terminology, accurate scheduling, and insurance coding. Ability to assist chairside during emergencies or staffing shortages is a plus. Work Details Primary location: Cannon County Health Department, with some travel to Warren County Health Department. Full-time schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Applicants should be customer-focused, self-motivated, team-oriented, and willing to travel as needed within the region.
