Job Title: CNC Lathe Operator

Summary: This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to machine metal, cast aluminum, or plastics parts as needed.  

Essential Function of the Job: The essential functions of this job require the person, with our without reasonable accommodations, to perform the following:

• Scan manufacturing orders for labor and machine time reporting.

• Follow oral and written instructions while using close vision to read and interpret CAD drawings and manufacturing orders.  Locate suitable CNC Code (or “program”) and transfer from the storage location to CNC machine and modify program as needed to meet final machining conditions and inspection tolerances.  

• Prepare and pre-set all tools needed for machining operations from machine set-up sheets.  Assemble cutting tools into tool holders and position tool holders into the machine tool changer.  

• Lift or move up to 25 pounds to load tools and workpieces into the machine.

• Perform first piece measurements and periodic quality checks as prescribed by the process documentation. Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, look for ways to improve and promote quality, and offer ideas to improve machine performance. 

• Stop machine to change cutting tools and set-up according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.

• Identify program and specification errors and discuss them with Supervision or programming personnel to resolve these and all other problems in a timely manner. 

• Perform basic math functions and use MRP software to complete required inspection documentation.

• Use mechanical ability and machine checklist to perform minor corrective and preventive maintenance on machines.  

• Maintain a clean work area.    

• Balance team and individual responsibilities, establish and maintain positive working relationships, contribute to building a positive team spirit and support everyone’s efforts to succeed.  

• Observe all safety and security procedures, report potential unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly.  

• Perform all other duties as assigned.  

Recommended Education and/or Experience 

High School Diploma or Equivalent; or minimum three years related CNC Lathe operating experience.
