What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacist in Charge position at Ebenezer Medical Outreach, Inc.?

Summary: The Pharmacist-in-Charge builds a healthy community by overseeing the distribution of essential medications to uninsured and underinsured patients, including communicating with prescribers, managing inventory, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and program requirements, and interacting with patients to give prescriptions and answer medication questions.


Accountability: Executive Director, with clinical oversight by the Pharmacy Director.

  • Patient care – receive and fill prescriptions; communicate with prescribers and patients about medications, answering questions and making suggestions that promote improved clinical outcomes; listen to patients’ reports of symptoms and suggest over-the-counter medications; and, provide clinical services (e.g. vaccinations, birth control, tobacco cessation aids, etc.) as permitted by relevant certifications and licensures.
  • Pharmacy inventory – receive and fill prescriptions; manage pharmacy inventory, ensuring availability of needed medication and supplies; maintain formulary of available medications and regularly communicate with providers; identify and utilize resources to meet medication-related needs in the patient population.
  • Pharmacy compliance – ensure Pharmacy compliance with all applicable regulations and patient assistance program requirements; oversee activities related to audits and inspections; manage participation in patient assistance programs; and, stay informed on practice changes and develop implementation plans.

Leadership – provide direct supervision to Community Pharmacy staff and volunteers, including orientation and training, managing schedules, performance coaching, and other activities that promote employee engagement; serve as subject matter expert for clinic leadership team; report on pharmacy activities and performance as needed for Board oversight, regular operations, grants, and more; represents Ebenezer in the community; and, attend staff meetings and participate in quality improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Valid pharmacist license with current registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Proven experience in pharmacy practice.
  • Strong clinical pharmacy experience with a focus on patient care, assessment, and medication therapy management.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software systems, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR platforms.
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and pharmacology principles essential for effective patient assessment.
  • Ability to handle inventory management efficiently while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescription medications accurately while adhering to all regulatory guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate medication therapies, including evaluating medical histories and physiology knowledge.
  • Provide expert consultation on medication management, including immunizations, pain management, pediatrics, and critical care treatments.
  • Utilize pharmacy software and electronic health record (EHR) systems to process prescriptions, update patient records, and manage inventory efficiently.
  • Educate patients on medication administration, potential side effects, and proper usage to ensure adherence and safety.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all pharmacy operations.
  • Manage inventory levels meticulously to prevent shortages or overstocking of essential medications.
  • Assist in training pharmacy technicians and support staff to uphold high standards of patient service and operational efficiency.
  • Support hospital or clinical teams with medical management initiatives, including acute care protocols and medication therapy reviews.


Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour

  • Expected hours: 15.0 – 25.0 per week
