POSITION SUMMARY
The Civil Processing Engineering Technician performs professional civil engineering technical support work relating to highway system planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities for county highways, bridges, culverts, and other appurtenances on the county road system. This position assists with other state and local road projects as requested and includes construction observation duties.
The position requires proficiency in drafting and design software, the ability to analyze sketches, notes, and engineering input to develop complex plans, and knowledge of transportation design standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Produce drawings and construction plans for general roadway design and drainage improvement projects using drafting and design software.
- Analyze sketches, notes, and engineer input to determine the optimal approach to complex drawings.
- Calculate quantities, dimensions, grades, and other computations related to design.
- Ensure compliance with drafting and plan standards for Eau Claire County; provide input to ongoing projects.
- Prepare conceptual layouts, cross-sections, profiles, cost estimates, special provisions, and scoping documents.
- Conduct construction observation for transportation projects, monitor project progress, and ensure adherence to contract requirements.
- Assist with operating survey tools for accurate field data collection, construction staking, and miscellaneous surveys.
- Assist with maintaining GIS data for Eau Claire County assets.
- Maintain highway databases, traffic count data, and departmental filing systems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners; communicate with contractors, utility companies, and the public as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in or completed an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience. Candidates with a four-year civil engineering degree will also be considered.
- Proficient in drafting and design software.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Position will require a pre-employment physical exam.
- Position will be subject to pre-hire, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
