Requirements
BLS required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical terminology required. Two (2) years medical setting experience. Previous surgery scheduling experience preferred.
- Effectively maintains ongoing communication with co-workers and supervisors, keeping them informed of pertinent information that effects patient care, physician issues, and/or other departmental areas of concern.
- Responsible for daily scheduling for surgical cases using the Meditech application, collecting required information, and conducting ongoing communication with physicians, surgery staff, anesthesia personnel, and other ancillary departments/employees as required.
- Serves as a liaison between surgery/PACU/ Outpatient surgery staff, surgery patients/families and anesthesia. Refers patients/families to physicians or nurse if unable to provide/satisfy patient needs or answer questions.
- Coordinates/produces surgery schedule weekly, distributing to necessary department/areas and making changes/notifications as needed. Coordinates with surgeons, reps and offices to determine the most efficient staffing of cases. Able to multi-task and prioritize assignments, meeting required deadlines.
- Provides clerical support to the Manager of Clinics/Surgical Services and surgical Services Supervisor as required, to assemble statistics, creates weekly surgery schedule and surgical on-call schedule and other tasks as assigned.
- Contributes to Quality Improvement and Job hazard Analysis processes for department. Reports monthly statistics to Director.
- Demonstrates competency in computer applications as required for job function.
- Collects data/clearances for pre-op nurses to review and coordinates pre-op visits by phone or in person when required. Assembles and registers all surgery charts accurately and efficiently.
- Greets, verifies information and directs patients in a professional manner on the day of surgery. Maintains communication with family members/friends, observing confidentiality.
