What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Manager - Seasonal (Parks & Recreation) position at Eaton County?
Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, or their designee, The primary purpose of this position is to work under the guidance of the Deputy Director and Recreation & Events Coordinator to be onsite and manage the overall summer camp program. The summer camp director is responsible for communicating with all parents, guardians, teachers, counselors and other camp staff before, during and after the summer camp.
Hours may vary when programming is running, but normally a 40-hour work week.
3. Manage and supervise camp staff.
4. Delegates responsibilities to staff.
5. Communicate with proper individuals involving weekly trips.
6. Determines appropriate action for behavioral issues.
7. Responsible for annual camp review/evaluations.
8. Preform other duties assigned by the Deputy Director and Recreation & Events Coordinator

- Develop camp packets.
- Conduct camp staff training at the beginning of camp and facilitate ongoing meetings and necessary training to keep staff informed and certifications current.

- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of: development needs of youth; behavior management techniques; safety regulations and emergency procedures; effective supervisory and management principles and practices.
- Skill in: handling sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; teambuilding; cost projections and cost-benefit analysis; training, evaluating and instructing staff.
- Ability to: motivate staff; communicate effectively with all levels of camp staff to address the needs of campers; communicate with parents and guardians.
- Education and Training Guidelines
- Education and/or Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age with supervisory experience. College level course work in elementary or secondary education is a plus. Previous experience working in a camp setting or teaching is preferred. Must have a current Red Cross or equivalent CPR, AED and First Aid Certification prior to the start of camp (certification training will be provided upon hire if necessary)

Other Requirements:
- Must possess valid Michigan Driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- The position is a temporary, seasonal, at-will position; the person hired for this position is hired for no specific term and Eaton County reserves the right to terminate the relationship at any time. Nothing in this job description should be construed as a contract or guarantee of continued employment and Eaton County reserves the right to change benefits or bypass discipline policies if the situation warrants.
- Ability to regularly travel to the various parks locations.
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain in order to inspect trails and parks.
- Must be able to sit, kneel, stoop, stand, walk, climb and lift 75 pounds
- Extensive walking to inspect program and event sites
- Ability to access the various locations of the parks.
Working Conditions:
- Works in office conditions and the various parks locations.
- Works outside in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to equipment where risk exists of getting burned, bruised or scraped.
- Exposure to environmental allergens such as grass, weeds and pollens.
Salary : $17 - $22
