The expected annual salary range for this role is $141003.0 - $206804.4 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you’ll do:
Eaton Corporation’s Electrical Sector is seeking a Chief Architect, Embedded. This position will report directly to the Technical Director, Embedded Controls and Systems. This role is responsible for providing technical direction of systems design and solutions for Electrical Sector America at the direction of the technical director. This person will support of the broader Energy Transition, Electrification, and Digital Enablement strategic initiatives.
The role will work across Divisions and Centers of Excellence (CoE) to drive and deliver the creation and implementation of high-level and low-level embedded and control systems and software architectures. This person will also help define the general architectural vision that guides the organization, serving as guiding principles across all Eaton stakeholders and engineering teams.
- Transform how Eaton approaches systems engineering by establishing and implementing industry-leading Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) agile best-practice standards to deliver on mission-critical, critical-infrastructure Controls and Embedded Systems applications controlling complex systems
- Apply understand industry best practices in Continuous Improvement / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) workflows as they apply to embedded and controls component use cases and guide divisions at the direction of the Sector and the Digital Office to realization, especially in respect to how multitudes of operating platforms and controls application middleware is consumed across
- Develop Embedded and Controls component, system, and solution Minimal Viable Product (MVP) prototypes through Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4, leveraging Customer Readiness Level (CRL) analysis in collaboration with stakeholders and direct customer interaction
- Apply understanding of organization goals/strategies in defining embedded and controls systems architectures, from MCU/SoC/microprocessor selection though controls and digital software approaches, in collaboration across the divisions and related COEs
- Drive the adoption of systems engineering solutions by collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders - Collaborate with commercial organizations across Divisions
- Mentor and guide engineering teams (Division, ES Global, and Centers of Excellence) to drive standardization, in-sourcing, and the realization of strategic initiatives
- Design training program for current and new embedded software engineers in Test-Driven Development (TDD) and other best design practices for software engineering
- Help build the five (5) year technology roadmap on controls and embedded systems by working with the Divisions and the Eaton Digital Office (EDO), driving adoption of new technologies and modern tools – focusing on enabling digital products and services
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the design of hierarchical control systems, with an emphasis on high-performance embedded and distributed industrial control systems and related applications
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in managing software projects with an emphasis in embedded systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Additional experience in embedded controls development, communication protocol design/standards/applications, multi-controller integration, middleware, and systems design, analysis, diagnostics, and testing
Skills:
- Project/Program Management; Waterfall and other development methodologies; SOLID, Twelve Factor Apps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Test
- Communication / Presentation skills, leading in culturally diverse situations
