Public Works Worker

Easttown Township, Chester County seeks aPublic Works Crew 1 (with Sewer License). This position is a full-time union position with a competitive benefits package. The position is responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining the roads, sewers, parks, and facilities of all public works services, which includes but is not limited to, 50 miles of streets and highways, fleet maintenance, parks and sanitary sewer maintenance and facilities, storm water infrastructure management for approximately 11,000 residents in 8.2 square miles.

· Work involves operating equipment, including trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, plows, spreaders, mowers, tree chippers, saws, jack hammers, air compressors, leaf blowers, pavement paint strippers, and hand tools. Participate in emergency operations associated with weather or operations.

· Operating, repairing, and maintaining sanitary sewer system. Inspecting sewer lines and pump stations, collecting data and reading meters, cleaning, repairing, and repainting sewer equipment and structures.

· Responding to sewer emergencies (breaks, spills, power failures, alarms, etc.).

· Plowing or salting during snow and ice removal activities.

· Clean, clear, repair, and install storm pipes, storm inlets, potholes, culverts, storm basins, roads, road signs, right of way, etc.

· Perform general park maintenance items of cutting grass, removing tree limbs, cutting trees, clearing debris, painting, weeding, mulching, cleaning, repairing fences, removing trash, planting trees, field line painting, repairing sidewalks and trails, etc.

· Inspect, maintain, clean, and repair playground equipment and sports courts.

· Assist the Township with special events at the parks (concerts, parades, picnics, etc.).

· Make minor building repairs for small projects including painting, dry walling, tiling, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, masonry, etc.

· Assist with coordination of building repairs to be done by contractors for projects including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, masonry, fire suppression, etc.

Applicant must possess High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D., minimum of three (3) years of education, training, and experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or trades, CDL (or ability to obtain one within 90-days of hire date), valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and available for emergency calls, and after-hours responses and current PA Sewer Operators License.

Starting Rate: $29.76/hour Post Probation Rate: $32.00/hour
