What are the responsibilities and job description for the Discipleship Pastor position at Eastpoint Church?
The Discipleship Pastor at Eastpoint Church will champion the church’s efforts to help people grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus and live as fully devoted disciples. This individual will oversee community groups, discipleship groups, classes, and catalytic events, while equipping and multiplying leaders who create environments for spiritual growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spiritually mature: models the lifestyle of a passionate, maturing follower of Jesus.
- Enthusiastically embraces God’s vision for Eastpoint Church.
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, or related field (Master’s or seminary preferred).
- 3–5 years of ministry experience in discipleship, group leadership, or similar.
- Strong organizational skills and the tenacity to push initiatives to completion without losing sight of the details.
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Committed to excellence and “allergic to mediocrity.”
- Team player with a positive influence, adaptable to various personalities.
- Teachable, coachable, and approachable.
- Skilled in training and equipping leaders, with excellent communication and teaching abilities.
- Comfortable using Planning Center Online, church management software, and digital discipleship tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community & Connect Groups
- Identify, equip, and empower group leaders and coaches.
- Schedule and lead Turbo training multiple times per year.
- Coach existing community group leaders, ensuring alignment with the church’s discipleship pathway.
- Recruit and develop community group coaches.
- Maintain a group leader scouting report and respond to relevant Serve Form submissions (“Group Leader”).
- Visit group Bible studies to provide feedback and encouragement to leaders.
- Write weekly Community Group discussion questions.
- Ensure Planning Center Online (PCO) Groups are updated and all back-end registration administration is handled.
- Collaborate with the Music and Creative Pastor for Sunday promotions.
- Complete annual goal setting for community groups.
- Manage the ministry calendar and budget for groups.
- Participate in All Staff meetings and discipleship team meetings.
Discipleship Groups & Resources
- Continue to expand Eastpoint’s Discipleship Group movement by identifying and training relational disciple-makers.
- Personally disciple and train 1–2 ignition groups per year.
- Coach, support, and pray for current disciple-makers in the field.
- Maintain and update the Discipleship Group workbook and scouting report of future leaders.
- Follow up on Serve Form inquiries for “1:1 Discipleship.”
- Make weekly follow-up calls to individuals seeking information about following Jesus.
- Spiritual Growth Plan and Grow Videos oversight and implementation
- Inspire the congregation to participate and encourage their progress through their courses.
Classes
- Oversees the classes portion of our discipleship strategy for foundational, advanced and supplemental content, including the School of Growth and Development.
- Identify teachers and strategically schedule classes like Discipleship 101, Baptism Class, FPU, etc.
- Rebrand and increase engagement for School of Growth and Development
Catalytic Events
- Develop a plan for annual men’s and women’s conferences.
- Identify, equip, and oversee leaders for these events, from ideation to promotion to implementation.
- Ensure all groups, classes, and events are strategically timed on the calendar to complement the church’s discipleship rhythm.
Sunday Responsibilities
- Serve as a visible presence and point person on Sunday mornings.
- Actively connect with guests and members in the lobby to foster community and build relationships.
- Populate the scouting report with potential leaders identified through Sunday interactions.
Performance Standards
- Maintain weekly communication and publish discussion questions at least 4 weeks ahead.
- Ensure the annual cycle of group life is consistent and effective.
- Visit 2–3 Community or Connect Groups each month.
- Monitor and evaluate the following metrics:
- Number of current Community Group participants.
- Number of new groups/leaders by trimester.
- Total number of active groups.
