Easton Valley Community School District is seeking highly motivated, quality applicants for a full-time Elementary Counselor position for the 2026-2027 school year. Easton Valley is located approximately 35 miles south of Dubuque and 40 miles north of the Quad Cities. The counselor works cooperatively with parents, teachers, administrators and the community in providing needed social/emotional support and direction to students. The Elementary Counselor will report to the secondary Principal.
Education
- Valid Iowa Teaching License
- License Endorsement: Professional Counselor
- Appropriate B.O.E.E. Licensure
Essential Functions of the Role

- Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
- Ability to communicate within the structure of the organization as well as the community. Clearly articulate goals and expectations to adults and students.
- Knowledge of the district organization structure and function, as well as laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the position.
- Working knowledge of the CCTC partnership.
- Interest in participating and seek out professional learning opportunities, implementing strategies and showing a reflective nature to grow professionally.
- Effective record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Experience with JMC and course scheduling.
School Counselor Job Responsibilities
- Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
- Remains universally accessible and makes an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.
- Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
- Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
- Participates in data team meetings, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.
- Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
- Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
- Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
- Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
- Provides crisis counseling in times of need.
- Schedule and facilitate all student intake meetings and provide orientation for new students at the school and familiarize the students and families with building best practices and procedures.
- Manage student 504 plans.
- Be a team-oriented person.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the State Assessment testing program.
- Consult with educational specialists such as school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, AEA specialists, social service, and mental health specialists.
