Instrument & Controls Technician
PAY RATE: $28.27 per hour or higher depending upon experience
JOB OBJECTIVE: Design, install, program, and test new electrical utility installations. Support and maintain electrical equipment at power plants, substations, other Easton Utilities departments, and the Town of Easton. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to write specifications for electrical purchases and assist in the repair of electrical facilities when needed.
- Ability to test and calibrate protective relaying, metering and associated equipment.
- Install and troubleshoot electrical systems and interfaces.
- Knowledge of AAS and/or experience in power plant and electric system operation.
- Must have good communication skills to effectively work with department employees and customers.
- Have familiarity with electrical equipment rated to 72.5KV and below.
- Ability to install, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Have knowledge of NESC, NETA, and NFPA codes and standards.
- Must have training and experience in power plant, substations, electric system operations or a related field.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide technical support for upgrades and maintenance involving power generation, electric and gas transmission, substation and distribution.
- Design, install, and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems:
- Power plants
- Substations
- Distribution equipment
- Protection
- Other company departments
- Installation coordination and organization
- Provide technical support to all Easton Utilities and Town of Easton employees.
- Write specifications and procurement documents for electrical equipment.
- Develop software programs for PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems.
- Provide technical analysis such as fault current, voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, economic studies, planning studies and forecasting.
- Assist in mapping the electric distribution system as needed.
- Prepare and review one-line diagrams, digital and analog I/O lists, topology diagrams, connection drawings, interconnection drawings and schematic drawings.
- Available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages and weather emergencies.
- Design, install and maintain automation systems that provide:
- Increased reliability
- Increased operator information and control
- Increased reporting functions
- Reduced customer service interruptions
- Enhance the Electric Department’s service and productivity by providing support to other employees and filling in and completing other duties as requested by the Superintendent of Electric Maintenance.
- Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.

Instrument & Controls Technician II: Pay starting at $33.92 per hour or higher depending on experience.
Instrument & Controls Technician III: Pay starting at $37.16 per hour or higher depending on experience.
