Position Summary
Eastmont School District is seeking a Grounds & Maintenance Technician to support district-wide grounds, athletic fields, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, field painting, and general facilities support. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks requiring initiative, adaptability, and a strong commitment to customer service.
The successful candidate will assist with maintaining safe, functional, and attractive facilities while supporting maintenance and grounds operations across multiple campuses. This position requires the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, operate specialized equipment, and respond to changing district needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grounds and Athletic Field Maintenance
- Maintain district grounds, landscaped areas, playgrounds, and athletic fields.
- Perform mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weed control, leaf removal, and general grounds maintenance.
- Assist with athletic field preparation, grooming, striping, and event setup.
- Perform turf renovation activities including aeration, overseeding, fertilization, and field repairs.
- Assist with snow and ice removal operations as required.
Irrigation Systems
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, pumps, sprinklers, and piping.
- Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and system diagrams.
- Perform seasonal startup, inspections, adjustments, and winterization of irrigation systems.
Equipment Maintenance and Operation
- Operate and maintain mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, trailers, aerators, sprayers, and other grounds equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on district equipment.
- Assist with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical troubleshooting of grounds equipment.
- Maintain maintenance records and equipment service schedules.
District Support Operations
- Manage and organize surplus inventory and materials.
- Transport supplies, equipment, curriculum materials, and other district resources.
- Assist with maintenance yard operations, recycling activities, and warehouse organization.
- Support maintenance staff with facility-related projects and repairs as assigned.
- Assist with emergency response activities and district-wide operational needs.
General Responsibilities
- Apply pesticides, herbicides, and related products in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations.
- Maintain accurate application records and comply with all reporting requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Complete work orders, reports, and required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, contractors, and the public.
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Washington State driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Washington State Public Operator Pesticide License at time of hire, or ability to obtain within the probationary period as a condition of continued employment.
- Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and performing outdoor maintenance activities.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining K-12 athletic fields, parks, golf courses, or commercial landscapes.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems.
- Experience operating tractors, skid steers, and other heavy equipment.
- Experience with hydraulic, mechanical, and small-engine repairs.
- Experience with pesticide and herbicide application programs.
- Experience with inventory management, material handling, and warehouse operations.
- Experience with Turf Tank field painting systems.
- Familiarity with irrigation schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Computer proficiency for work order management and recordkeeping.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance, athletic field preparation, and landscape management practices.
- Knowledge of safe pesticide application procedures.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing assignments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, contractors, and the public.
