What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inspector position at Eastman Machine Co?
DESCRIPTION
Perform inspection duties to check a wide variety of parts, subassemblies, assemblies, tooling, and gaging. Check adjust and calibrate measuring instruments as required. Work from drawings, routings, inspection procedures and instructions to perform diversified inspection operations. Detect and report unusual conditions. Maintain specified records of work performed and items inspected. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Perform all inspection and calibration related duties as directed by supervisor.
COMPLEXITY & JUDGEMENT
Work is generally routine. Requires experienced judgment in applying knowledge of Eastman parts, assemblies and dimensional characteristics where independent thought is necessary to make decisions on minor non-conforming conditions or to critical-to-quality dimensions. Independently work with Engineers on non-conforming conditions or print errors for disposition. Computer work required.
EDUCATION
Thoroughly understand the operation, use and be able to calibrate all precision measuring instruments, gages and test equipment utilized in a machine shop environment. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints including all machining and welding symbols and nomenclature. A good working knowledge of all Eastman machining and assembly operations.
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience using measuring equipment in a manufacturing or machine shop environment. Ability to understand the proper gage or measuring tool(s) to use to inspect parts or assemblies based on several factors including but not limited to part characteristic, part tolerance and available gaging. Ability to adjust gaging and tooling as needed using master gages or other. Prior computer work experience required.
INITIATIVE
Initiative required to make decisions based on a working knowledge of inspection procedures, product knowledge and best manufacturing practices.
ERRORS
Generally would result in costly rework later in the production process and affect production schedules, possibly resulting in missed customer deliveries. Potential damage to expensive gaging and test equipment.
CONTACTS
Contacts with other departments requiring discussion of special problems or presentation of data for decision.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Considerable moving about among other workers and requiring light to medium duty work with tools or in lifting and moving product.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Average shop conditions. Contact with parts. Computer work.
