Position Summary

The Employment Consultant (EC) plays a crucial role in empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals. This position requires a strong understanding of various employment programs, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong community relationships. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, organized, and compassionate individual dedicated to making a positive impact.

The EC assists in teaching job specific tasks, job related attitudes and job site culture. These services include pre-vocational work, employment planning with individuals, and job development and related duties. The EC will be held accountable for placing clients into community-based jobs per agreements with different funding agencies. Outcomes and impact will be the main indicator of success in this position.


Customer Service

  • Empowers customers to recognize and demonstrate their abilities and talents within the community.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with participants, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitates individualized planning processes to support participants' employment and personal goals.
  • Advocates for customers with awareness of disability rights, ADA accommodations, and natural supports, while staying informed on disability employment trends.
  • Contributes to a team-based approach in addressing and removing barriers for customers. 

 

Direct Services

  • Provides individualized supervision and training in vocational and community settings.
  • Evaluates customers’ skills, interests, and support needs through hands-on experiences in diverse environments.
  • Teaches job search strategies, résumé development, and interview preparation tailored to individual strengths and goals.
  • Supports skill acquisition and task mastery using various learning methods and adaptive strategies.
  • Promotes independence by developing positive work environments and leveraging natural support in the workplace.
  • Advocates for customers to employers and community members with awareness of disability rights, ADA accommodations, and knowledge of disability employment trends.
  • Coordinates transportation solutions (e.g., ACCESS or other community transit options) to support employment access.
  • Monitors, documents, and evaluates customer progress toward employment goals.
  • Transport customers for job development and/or community inclusion activities using personal vehicle.


Business & Job Development

  • Establishes and nurtures partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and employers to identify and create inclusive employment opportunities.
  • Conducts outreach to potential employers to educate them about the benefits of inclusive hiring and customized employment solutions.
  • Matches customer skills and interests with employer needs to create mutually beneficial employment placements.
  • Coordinates job trials, internships, and job carving opportunities when appropriate.
  • Maintains ongoing employer engagement to support long-term job retention and satisfaction.
  • Understand and model the dual customer mindset with businesses and clients.


ADA & Reasonable Accommodation Support

  • Provides employers with guidance on ADA compliance, reasonable accommodations, and creating accessible workplaces.
  • Assists employers in identifying and implementing effective, low-cost accommodations to support employee success.
  • Acts as a liaison between the employer and customer to ensure communication and accommodation needs are understood and met.
  • Educates businesses on inclusive employment practices and available resources to support employees with disabilities.
  • Stays current on federal, state, and local disability employment laws and policies to ensure accurate information is provided.


Program Development & Fiscal Accountability

  • Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains accurate and timely client records, service documentation, billing, and progress reports in accordance with agency and funding requirements.
  • Meets or exceeds monthly billable service goals and performance metrics.
  • Participates in staff meetings, continuing education, and professional development training to ensure best practices in service delivery.
  • Other Duties Assigned.


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Must be 18 years old or older

• Two years of college coursework or degree in marketing, vocational rehabilitation, sales or personnel, psychology, or social work (preferred)

• Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and navigating the internet

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certified

• Valid WA State Driver’s license, private transportation to be used on the job, proof of adequate level of auto insurance coverage, and acceptable 5-year driving abstract

• Must pass Washington State DSHS background check (and federal background check if applicable) and maintain background check compliance

• Must successfully complete Easterseals Washington (ESW) Corporate Orientation and program department orientation

• Commitment to Easterseals’ Purpose Statement: Changing the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or right to work

What We Offer

ESW offers a competitive hourly wage of $24-$25.00 per hour, a full benefit package including vision and dental coverage after 60 days, plus monthly mileage reimbursement and phone stipend.
