The Health and Safety Director, R.N. is responsible for all health care and medical needs of the Adult day service participants.

Position Summary
The Health and Safety Director, R.N. is responsible for all health care and medical needs of the Adult day service participants.
Essential Functions
- Develop and amend health policies and procedures.
- Monitor client’s health needs, changes in condition, and assume lead in emergency situations.
- Initiate CPR and first aid measures in emergency situations as warranted.
- Supervise health services and advise Director regarding health and related programs.
- Serve as liaison for participants, caregivers, staff and medical rehab around medical issues.
- Monitor medications of participants needing supervision for medication administration.
- Administer medications to participants who are not able to self-administer.
- Store, prepare, administer and document medications in accordance with Maryland Medical Adult Day Care regulations.
- Perform treatments as ordered by participants’ physicians.
- Provide personal care and assistance with ADLs and train other employees as appropriate.
- Monitor vital signs and document.
- Maintain accurate participant medical records to include: monthly and quarterly nursing progress notes, complete and maintain ADCAPS in a timely fashion, document physician’s orders.
- Coordinate care plan schedule with multidisciplinary team and develop all nursing-related care plans.
- Coordinate services between Easter Seals Home and Community Therapy Program, University of Maryland Geriatric Psychiatry Services, Podiatry Services, and any other on-site services related to medical care.
- Present two staff in-service training courses per year addressing issues of aging and Standard Precautions.
- Maintain contact with family/caregiver on a regular basis. Follow-up with all caregivers of participants on Medical Leave of Absence.
- Provide a health-related presentation and/or activity to participants each month.
- Develop and implement Quality Assurance program, monitoring and evaluating the program in relation to licensing requirements.
- Ensure the safety of the participants at all levels of the Center including transportation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Registered Nurse with current Maryland license.
- Current CPR and First Aid.
- At least 3 or more years of experience in a health care setting.
- 2 years of experience in management with senior population in health care setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with participants, families, care providers, colleagues, community referral sources, and the general community.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and problem-solve. Accountable for own decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
- Report issues, successes, and concerns promptly to the Center Director.
- Provide leadership to all Center Employees as well as adhere to and enforce all Center policies and procedures.
- Consistently abides by confidentiality of client information.
- Comfortable using the computer, internet and email.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.
- Delegate effectively to employees under his/her supervision.
- Follow procedures for hiring and terminating employees as outlined in Easter Seals Employee Handbook.
- Provide performance evaluations at least once a year as well as provide ongoing feedback and disciplinary action (as needed) on all employees under his/her supervision.
