What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Eastern Shore Forest Products, Inc.?
Responsibility:
As a member of the maintenance team, you hold the responsibility of insuring that the plant is in a constant state of readiness to perform efficiently, effectively and safely while at all times protecting the asset and the people that work within it.
Job Duties:
The job duties include but are not limited to the following:
Planning
· Develop a maintenance schedule that ensures machines are being maintained presentably at the highest level.
· Work with other team members and management to develop maintenance strategies that ensure the long-term protection of the plant assets and also ensures that the plant will be an efficient and effective producer of quality products
· Complete all workorders in a reasonable timeframe
· Meet with supervisors and production managers daily to schedule preventative maintenance and discuss any ongoing issues that may need to be addressed.
· Work to develop a tracking system for parts, filters, etc. in and out.
· Practice Lean maintenance techniques and use the 5S program to develop a culture of lean within the maintenance organization and the greater plant as well.
· Constantly look for ways and make suggestions to improve on current methods, practices and procedures.
· Schedule and follow up with all appointments with outside repair companies.
· Think Long Term
Doing:
· Maintenance personnel are responsible for working on all equipment within the facility. Preventive maintenance, lubrication and adjustment are the main responsibility and of the highest priority. This includes working on all types of material handling, screening equipment, motors, gearboxes, shavers, rolling stock, etc. to the best of their ability.
· Parts and supply responsibilities
o Ensure that the proper quantity and quality of parts and tools are on hand and properly organized for efficient retrieval at all times
o Order Parts and supplies, Issue Purchase Orders – Obtain the best price, Establish and maintain inventories on parts, filters and consumables
o Match invoices to the purchase orders and ensure the company is only paying for what they received and that it is at the agreed upon price
o Keep parts room and Tool room to 5s standards
o Establish minimums and maximums on inventories based on usage and past history
o Order safety supplies as needed
· Take responsibility for shop cleanliness
o Create a shop and workspace that is worthy of pride.
Documenting:
· Maintain Fleet Maintenance documentation
o Collect and report equipment hours
· Document all maintenance performed in a system agreed to by management.
Observing:
· You should keep a constant vigil on housekeeping and report any issues that may pose fire or other safety risks to supervisors or if appropriate deal with the issue on the spot.
· Make sure that all safety and fire-fighting equipment is in the proper location and in enough quantity and quality to provide a safe work environment.
· You must be vigilant about watching out for things that pose a threat to humans and company assets alike.
Safety:
· Organize and run fire drills weekly when called upon by management to do so
· Run safety program including safety meetings on a weekly basis when called upon by management to do so
· Report any unsafe conditions and correct them immediately
· Follow all safety rules established by the company and OSHA and follow all local and federal laws
Overall:
· Demonstrate leadership by helping others solve problems and improve their skills.
· Continue to add value by educating yourself on any and all things that may improve the plant operations.
· Demonstrate organizational skills in all that you do.
· This position requires any other duties that the supervisor or plant manager may deem necessary.
Work Experience Requirements:
· Front-end loader, forklift or other construction machinery experience is required.
· Knowledge of general fabrication techniques is required.
· Welding skills are recommended welding and fabrication of components may be required.
· Knowledge of basic mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical functions and systems.
· Computer skills enough to allow for ordering of parts, sending emails, documenting, researching and general communication
Training Requirements:
· Safety Training
· Demonstrate proficiency in Lockout Tagout
