Lovelace Heart Hospital is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing – CVICU to lead a highly specialized cardiovascular intensive care team in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

About the Unit

• 16-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit within a 55-bed Heart Hospital
• Approximately 50-60 nursing team members
• Dedicated cardiac and vascular patient population
• Advanced cardiovascular therapies and procedures
• Collaborative environment with CT surgeons, intensivists, and interventional cardiology teams

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour leadership and operational oversight of the CVICU
• Lead staffing, scheduling, recruitment, retention, and employee engagement initiatives
• Monitor quality metrics, patient outcomes, and regulatory compliance
• Conduct chart audits and support staff education and professional development
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes
• Manage departmental budgets, productivity, and operational performance
• Serve as a mentor and leader for charge nurses and clinical staff
• Support bedside clinical operations as needed

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

OR

• Enrolled in an accredited BSN program with a documented completion date
• Minimum 3-5 years of recent CVICU nursing experience
• Minimum 2 years of formal nursing leadership experience such as Nurse Manager, Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Director
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 14 days of hire

Required Clinical Experience

Candidates must have a strong cardiovascular critical care background and recent CVICU experience.

Experience with the following is strongly preferred:

• ECMO
• LVAD
• Open Heart Recovery
• Impella
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps

Please note:

• Candidates from a purely Medical ICU background without significant cardiac experience will not be considered.
• Formal leadership experience is required. Interim or occasional charge nurse duties alone are not sufficient.

Preferred Qualifications

• MSN or Master's degree in a related field
• Nursing leadership certification
• Clinical specialty certification
