What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Kennel Assistant position at Eastern PA Veterinary Medical Center?
Our kennel assistants play a vital role on our team. Kennel assistants provide a clean, organized, and welcoming environment. Our kennel assistants work mainly independently and should be a self-starter. We seek highly motivated individuals that aim to provide the best patient and client experience.
This position will be required for overnight shifts on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 5:00PM to 5:00AM.
The following list is a brief overview of what you can expect to be doing here at EPVMC.
- Ensures hospital working areas are cleaned, stocked, and maintained in accordance with hospital policy.
- Identifies soiled or vacant cages and cleans them using appropriate cleaning techniques and chemicals.
- Uses PPE and other required protocols when cleaning infectious patient cages.
- Keeps lobby and exam rooms clean and welcoming.
- Prepares cleaning agent solutions. Sweeps and mops hospital floors as needed.
- Removes soiled laundry and folds and stocks clean laundry.
- Operates laundry machines using appropriate detergents, temperatures, and load sizes.
- Uses required PPE for handling infectious or chemotherapy patient laundry.
- Stocks medical and maintenance supplies throughout the hospital.
- Unpacks deliveries.
- Additional job duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry animals, bedding, food, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping required throughout the shift.
- Must be able to work on feet for extended periods, including up to 810 hours per shift.
- Must be comfortable working in wet, humid, or odorous environments and handling animal waste and cleaning agents safely.
- Ability to safely restrain and handle dogs, cats, and occasionally exotic animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, laundry, and kennel sanitation.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to monitor animals, handle cleaning equipment, and respond to animal behavior or safety concerns promptly.
