What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Development Specialist position at Eastern Oklahoma Development District?
The Eastern Oklahoma Development District (EODD) is seeking a full-time Community Development Specialist to support cities and towns with Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Capital Improvement Plans (CIP). This position will provide technical assistance in planning, infrastructure development, grant administration, and community engagement to improve economic conditions and quality of life in the EODD region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist communities with CDBG grant applications, compliance, and administration.
- Support towns with Capital Improvement Plans (inventory, mapping, policy, and implementation).
- Facilitate Local Planning Committees and help prioritize community needs.
- Conduct GIS-based inventories and support long-term infrastructure planning.
- Represent EODD at public meetings, hearings, and community events.
- Complete required training and assist with special projects.
Qualifications:
- Degree in public administration, business, planning, or related field is preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of local government operations and rural development initiatives.
- Experience in grant writing/administration and project management preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS tools.
- Ability to work both independently & within a team environment.
- Ability to learn new processes and programs as needed.
- Detail-oriented; able to follow state and federal guidelines.
- Must be able to travel, work occasional evenings, and pass an OSBI background check
