Job Requirements and Qualifications
Educational Background
Required:
· Master’s degree in public health, health administration, education, or a related field.
· Experience working with diverse populations in rural or underserved communities.
Professional Experience
Preferred:
· Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in healthcare, education, or community health program management.
· Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit administration at the executive level.
· Demonstrated leadership experience, including program development, strategic planning, and team management.
· Familiarity with AHEC programs or similar health workforce development initiatives.
Skills and Abilities
Leadership:
· Plans, organizes, directs, and monitors AHEC operations, programs, and financial status to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality programs for those served.
· Assures that AHEC meets or exceeds its obligations of obtained grants and contracts and locates and applies for new funding sources to sustain the AHEC.
· Ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams effectively.
· Strategic thinking with a proven track record of meeting organizational goals.
· Assures compliance with federal and state regulations.
Budget and Finance:
· Manage the finances of the organization including but not limited to:
· Develop and maintain sound financial practices using professional accounting guidelines.
· Work with the staff and board to prepare a realistic budget.
· Ensure that Eastern Ohio AHEC operates within budget guidelines.
· Manage state, federal and private funds in accordance with laws and regulations.
· Identify and pursue consortium memberships and other funding streams that are consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
· Conduct official correspondence and execute legal documents within the parameters of organizational mission,
· Goals, and bylaws, and in compliance with federal and state regulations.
· Ensure an annual professional review or audit based on the budget and NEOMED accounting requirements.
· Maintain a strong relationship with the agency’s investment firm and provide timely investment information to the board.
Communication:
· Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, educators, and community stakeholders.
· Experience in public speaking and presenting program outcomes.
· Serve as the voice of the organization with relevant constituents, board of directors, government leaders, partners, etc.
· Experience working with a board of directors and maintaining a relationship of communication on the condition of the organization and all-important factors influencing it.
· Publicize the activities of the organization’s programs by sharing cost savings and benefits with consortium members.
Program Development:
· Expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for health professionals and students.
· Ability to secure and manage grants and other funding sources.
Collaboration:
· Establishes effective working relationships and partnerships with health care providers, health systems/clinics, state departments, health centers, federal agencies, elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, businesses, government entities, and community organizations to enhance the understanding of the AHEC mission and attainment of goals.
· Proven ability to develop partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and community agencies.
· Skill in navigating complex stakeholder relationships and fostering collaborative environments.
Knowledge
· Deep understanding of healthcare systems, workforce development, and community health challenges.
· Familiarity with the social determinants of health and strategies to address healthcare disparities.
· Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to health education and funding compliance.
Personal Attributes
· Commitment to the mission of improving healthcare access and workforce development in underserved areas.
· Cultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
· The ability to travel within a four-county service area.
· High degree of initiative, adaptability, and resourcefulness.
