Position Summary

Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso seeks a full-time English Faculty member dedicated to teaching excellence, student engagement, and academic success. The faculty member will teach composition, literature, and related courses in both face-to-face and online formats, while contributing to curriculum development, assessment, and college initiatives that support student learning. A consistent on-campus presence is required to support instruction, collaboration, and program coordination. Position to begin Fall 2026.
Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach a full load (12 credit hours) of composition, creative writing, professional communication, and/or literature courses each semester in live and online modalities.
  • Maintain 10 on-campus office hours weekly to support student learning, advising, and engagement.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of a campus writing tutoring center.
  • Develop and update curricula, lesson plans, and instructional materials that align with program outcomes and institutional learning objectives.
  • Evaluate student mastery of course objectives, learning outcomes, and writing competencies.
  • Maintain professional and academic credentials relevant to assigned teaching areas.
  • Engage with professional and pedagogical development, particularly in the field of Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Successfully complete Quality Matters (QM) training and design certification to ensure course quality and alignment with institutional standards.
  • Participate in program and institutional assessment activities, using data to improve course effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty across departments to integrate writing and communication skills into college-wide instruction.
  • Participate in department and campus meetings, committees, and professional development activities.
  • Use Dropout Detective and other student support systems to promote retention and program completion.
  • Maintain accurate course records and meet all reporting deadlines, including customized syllabi submission, roster certification, midterm and final grades, and maintenance of electronic gradebooks and rubrics.
  • Establish a positive and respectful classroom environment that motivates students to participate and achieve their academic goals.
  • Adhere to classroom safety and emergency procedures.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts for English and related programs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in English from a regionally accredited university.
  • Two years recent teaching at an accredited post-secondary institution, OR a combination of current discipline-related employment and instruction at an accredited post-secondary institution, OR equivalent secondary teaching experience in the discipline.


Preferred:

  • Community College experience teaching and relating to students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience working in and/or coordinating a Writing Center tutoring lab.
  • Online teaching and online course development experience, preferably with Quality Matters framework and certification.
  • Use of a variety of multi-media and classroom technologies.
  • Experience developing curricula, measuring achievement of student learning objectives, evaluating course efficacy, and assessing and improving student learning.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills working with students, colleagues, staff, supervisors, and the community.
  • Endorsement of the community college teaching philosophy that supports the goal of success for all students through active learning experiences and engagement.
  • Understanding of rural communities and students.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide vision and leadership for departmental programs, student learning initiatives, and student completion efforts.
  • Strong commitment to ensuring that instruction is progressive, innovative, high-quality, and consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the college.
  • Excellent communication skills to maintain effective collaboration with the Department Chair and to ensure timely updates on departmental activities.
  • Ability to serve as an active and engaged member of the Academic Council, contributing to institutional planning and decision-making.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with departmental faculty and staff regarding departmental, campus, community, state, or federal issues that may affect operations.
  • Skill in advising and assisting students pursuing degrees or certificates within the department, including providing appropriate guidance in course selection and academic planning.


Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
