Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Music Theory area by providing leadership, course and program development, facilitating placement exams, overseeing graduate students and other student staff, and communicating with other Theory instructors.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Theory and related areas
- Potential to teach courses in a secondary area that may include composition, an applied instrument, or a professional area that supports Music Studies at Eastern Michigan University, according to the candidate’s field of expertise.
- Contribute to recruitment efforts and serve on committees (both within and beyond the School), and engage in professional creative/scholarly activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Music Theory OR earned doctorate in Music with experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate Music Theory (ABD or equivalent professional experience candidates will be considered)
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching music theory at the university level and preparing students to navigate the 21st-century musical landscape
- Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, and commitment to working in a collegial and collaborative environment
