Purchasing Agent

Purpose of position: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials and supplies from vendors at the lowest possible cost.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title:
- Determine items to be bid; evaluate and approve vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers
- Maintain updated product/vendor information
- Authorize purchase orders and "special mill" orders
- Reorder and purchase items needed for inventory replenishment
- Maintain and produce product numbers for special and standard stock items
- Manage and maintain re-order points in computer
- Required to use database / software to drive purchasing and business analytics / metrics
- Act as a liaison between Sales department and vendors
- This is a leadership position, and will require management of (3) buyers
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
- Two years of customer service or related experience
- EMS product knowledge
- Basic math skills
- Effective problem solving ability
- Professional customer service techniques
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Persuasive negotiation techniques
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience in purchasing of aluminum extrusion, sheet and coil is a plus
