Job Summary:

The Student Employee is responsible for assisting the staff in the assigned department. The Student Employee works with a team of baristas to take orders, make drinks, upkeep the coffee shop’s cleanliness and supplies, and provide welcoming customer service.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
• Answer incoming phone calls.
• Perform a variety of administrative and/or office duties.
• Provide assistance and support to faculty and/or staff in completing special projects as assigned.
• Perform general administrative responsibilities in support of the department/office/campus.
• Complete department-specific projects as assigned.
• Attend the workplace regularly as scheduled, report to work punctually, and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
• Support the values of the University.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work with other Student Leads and Staff Coordinator to establish the priorities of Common Grounds
• Attend a weekly meeting with the Common Grounds leadership team
• Support and manage the barista team through scheduling shifts, sending Read & Respond emails, and regular cleaning of the espresso machine and drip coffee maker.
• Manage the Common Grounds budget, including regular deposits, cash drawer handling, sales analysis, and processing student accounts.
• Manage the events and marketing through collaborating and communicating with various departments on campus who wish to host events in Common Grounds, supporting the tech of the events, and marketing Common Grounds events and menu items.
• Managing the products of Common Grounds through ordering and restocking products, keeping an active inventory, and filling out the Concur report each month.

• Be currently enrolled as a student at EMU.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
