Title of Position: TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor

Bargaining Unit/Anticipated Salary Range: MEA Administrator; Level III; $48,711.21 - $53,228.08

Position Start Date: December 2025

Funding: This position is funded by a US Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services grant. The grant is currently funded through August 31, 2030, but requires yearly discretionary funds to be allocated by Congress.

Job Summary / Responsibilities: This grant-funded position reports directly to the Director of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program and is an essential member of the team responsible for providing academic and transfer advising to 150 eligible participants. The TRIO Advisor works with students to create schedules, map out academic plans, review degree audits, create academic recovery plans for students on academic probation, assist with adding/dropping courses, and help students navigate the transfer process to 4-year institutions. The TRIO Advisor will also be responsible for the TRIO Peer Mentoring program and supervise 1-2 mentors each semester. In addition, the Advisor will assist in planning student workshops, cultural experiences, and the week-long summer bridge program in mid-August.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, student personnel services, or a related field. Experience developing and managing educational programs in secondary or higher education. Demonstrated knowledge of developmental education and understanding of the various risk factors associated with at-risk student populations. Administrative and organizational skills; data gathering; ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and participant learning. Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database software, and Student Information Systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; financial literacy background; experience coordinating activities with faculty, staff, and students in a post-secondary advising setting; knowledge of student development; understanding of the wide range of EMCC students’ needs, and ability to relate to a diverse student body.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated experience working with at-risk students, including those who are first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities. Experience working with community college students in a college advising capacity. Preference will be given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those of SSS eligible students.
