Eastern Gateway Community College invites applications for the Security Officer position. This is a full-time position based at our Youngstown, Ohio campus. The Security Officer is responsible for providing security services to students, faculty, staff and customers in a professional manner. The Security Officer reports to the Director of Security and Safety. This position is shift work which may include day shift, afternoon shift, night shift, weekend and holiday hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide security services such as walking patrols inside and outside of facilities, loss prevention, locking and unlocking doors, parking control and enforcement activities, providing directions and assistance to students, faculty and the public as needed.
- Responsible for identifying and reporting security threats, unsafe conditions or hazards and other emergency situations.
- Providing visual deterrence by maintaining a professional appearance, being alert at all times and interacting with others in a professional manner.
- Responding to incidents, gathering pertinent information regarding incidents and thoroughly documenting incidents as well as documenting daily activities.
- Monitor alarm, door and camera systems and respond and report as necessary. Provides other services as needed to fulfill the needs of the Department of Security and Safety.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Six or more months experience providing security services or customer service.
- Additional training in security is preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary certifications such as CPR and First Aid.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to work with Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel software.
- Ability to operate monitoring software for cameras, access control and alarms systems.
- Requires visual and hearing acuity to be observant to conditions and situations necessary to maintain the security of facilities and the safety of occupants.
- Requires ability to climb steps, reach, bend, kneel, and crouch as well as defend one’s self against attack. Physical capability is required to stand and walk for an extended period of time.
- Ability to interact with individuals in a courteous manner and to de-escalate situations before they become unsafe.
- Must be able to pass a background check with a clean criminal record.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate well, both verbal and written.
- Ability to adapt and adjust to changing work situations, processes, and procedures.
- Ability to work additional evening and weekend hours during peak coverage periods. Ability to travel to the college’s other sites as needed.
