What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Implementation Assistant position at Eastern Drayage?
About us: Eastern Drayage is one of the largest drayage carriers in the country, running ~300 trucks across the ports of NY/NJ, Baltimore, Savannah, Houston, and LA/Long Beach. We're replacing our legacy dispatch system with a custom-built platform (TMS) developed in-house using AI coding tools — and it's live today.
The role: You'll work directly with the CEO as the hands-on implementer of our new operating platform. The CEO designs; you execute, test, and roll out. This is not a programming job — it's a doing job. You'll use AI tools (Claude and Claude Code) to build and update the system, then walk the floor to make sure it actually works for the people using it.
What you'll do day to day:
- Run build sessions in Claude Code: paste in specs, review what changed, push updates live (GitHub → Vercel), run database updates (Supabase)
- Test every new feature before the team sees it — click every button, break it on purpose, report what's wrong
- Sit with dispatchers, customer service, and bookkeepers to learn how they work, capture what they need, and translate it into clear written requirements
- Run acceptance tests with real load data and verify the math — driver pay, invoices, P&L — down to the penny
- Keep the project documentation current: what shipped, what's queued, what's open
- Train the team on new screens and collect their complaints early
Who you are:
- Extremely organized, follows instructions precisely, and notices when step 3 didn't do what step 3 was supposed to do
- Comfortable with technology — Excel, web apps, learning new tools fast. Any exposure to spreadsheets/databases, AI tools, or light scripting is a plus, not a requirement
- A clear writer — you can turn a dispatcher's rant into a one-paragraph requirement
- Patient with non-technical people, unafraid of technical ones
- Wants to grow into a systems/operations leadership role as the platform expands (warehousing, customer portals, more)
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
