Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Hygiene Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will support dental hygienists in providing excellent patient care, ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety. This role involves working closely with patients, assisting with various dental procedures, and managing administrative tasks to enhance the overall patient experience.
Duties
- Assist dental hygienists during patient examinations and cleanings, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms by ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are sterilized and ready for use.
- Take and develop X-rays as needed, adhering to safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, including the importance of regular dental visits.
- Manage appointment scheduling and assist with front desk duties as required, including answering phones and greeting patients.
- Monitor vital signs and assist in the assessment of patients' health status prior to procedures.
- Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Open Dental for efficient patient management.
- Support pediatric dentistry initiatives by helping with coronal polishing
- Stay updated on dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED
- DA II Certification
- Coronal Polishing Certified for NC
- X-Ray Certification for NC
- Previous experience in a dental clinic setting is preferred, with knowledge of general dentistry practices.
- Understanding of medical terminology, medical documentation, coding, and records management is beneficial.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus; ability to work effectively with children is essential.
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care are required.
