Center Director, Child Development Center

Position Summary: Easter Seals seeks an exceptional, experienced, early childhood Center Director to lead their high quality inclusive early childhood program from infant to preschool aged children at one of their Child Development Centers. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree preferred and a minimum of five years of management/leadership experience in an early childhood setting and have center operational experience. Candidates must possess strong leadership skills and customer service skills and the ability to create strong partnerships with families and network within the local community. Candidates should be knowledgeable to lead staff in Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD and possess the following attributes: 

Leadership — Experienced professional with proven record as able leader in high performing early education child development programs 

Roles —has an impactful career trajectory serving young children, families, and enabling excellence in early childhood professionals 

Knowledge Base — Professional who shows a deep understanding of early childhood research, principles and practices, including addressing diversity Spirit — Professional demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively, to build a team, to demonstrate perseverance and enthusiasm in pursuing objectives toward high quality services and teacher development. Must meet state educational and licensing requirements for the Director credential in local jurisdiction of Center. 

Essential Functions 

  1. Personnel, Family, and Volunteer Management 
  • Provide orientation for new staff
  • Plan and implement in-service and other staff development activities as appropriate 
  • Facilitate staff meetings
  • Support, follow and implement agency policies and oversee others in doing so
  • Providing orientation and staff support to volunteers
  • Engage families in center support, activities, and communications.
  1. Marketing and Enrollment
  • Coordinate intake function including: screening telephone inquiries for admission, conducting tours, classroom placement, transitions and referral to other programs 
  • Establish procedures to monitor enrollment availability and initiate placement from wait list as needed 
  • Ensure that all referral, wait list and information calls for Center are documented 
  • Promote and participate in marketing and fund-raising efforts for the Center
  1. Fiscal Management
  • Performing all duties and operating programs within approved budget 
  • Prepare or help prepare Center budget, as well as implement and monitor it for compliance 
  • Ensure enrollment meets allocations for budget projections 
  • Pursue, negotiate and maintain contracts needed to bill for services and oversee timely and accurate submission of all billing data for services 
  • Oversee administration of contracts, grants, and direct services to clients enrolled in Center programs
  • Develop action plans to ensure continued funding as well as seek reimbursement from all eligible payer sources for client services. 
  • Monitor monthly financial statements and adjust spending as needed to maintain compliance; evaluate expenses for cost efficient operations 
  • Coordinate accounts receivable and accounts payable operations for Center with accounting office as required 
  1. Manage Operations and Licensing
  • Ensure that all client records are current and complete as required by licensing agents and Center policies 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations for Child Care licensure, NAEYC, ADA and others affecting facility and programs 
  • Provide a safe and clean environment for staff and children by overseeing supply orders, facility maintenance, facility service contracts, fire drills, fire drill practice and emergency contact sheets for staff and parents 
  • Other facility related issues as they occur
  • Coordinate completion of statistical data for Center required by the Easter Seals Headquarters 
  1. ECE Leadership and Community Engagement
  • Keeping up-to-date with day care/child care trends, locally and nationally 
  • Access and maintain current information on local, state and federal fiscal issues relating to effective service provision 
  • Actively participate in community efforts to promote quality services for children by participating in Interagency Councils, CCR&R and local committees/organizations 
  • Coordinate Center parent newsletter and information distribution to families and staff regarding federal, state and local issues affecting children and families 

Education/Experience

  • BA in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university is required 
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Human Development, Infancy/Early Childhood or related field is preferred 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising programs that provide comprehensive coordinated services to young children and their families
  • Working knowledge of programs serving infants and young children with special needs and their families 
  • One year experience as a child care center director or early childhood program director of full day programs and 3 years of full time teaching experience with children under 5 years of age
