*Job Overview*
We are seeking a dedicated Optometric Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist us in providing excellent eye care services and support to our patients. Techs perform pre-testing and work-ups on patients, perform advanced testing ordered by the doctors, assist doctors in exam rooms, and sribe in the charts for the doctors during patient visits.

Immediate benefits for full & part-time employees:
Pay starts at $13.00-$16.00/hr based on experience and certification. Part-time pays $1/hr less.
Vision benefits, including fully covered exams, contact lens fittings, and medical testing start at day one with limited glasses and contact lens allowances.
Every full-time employee has 4 hours per week (a half-day) unpaid time off if needed to take care of personal things (doctor appts, kids dental appts, etc.). Time off is managed by the department manager/lead technician.
In addition, every full-time employee has a bank of 60 unpaid sick/personal time hours per year which they can use to take additional time off as long as we have coverage to serve patients.
Travel airfare/hotel/registration fees to occasional professional conventions are covered to provide additional training.
On-the-job training allows for employees to become certified up to three levels of certfication over the years, thus adding an automatic $1/hour raise for each level in addition to merit raises they receive as their expertise grows. This certification is national and remains with you. (eg. Jane Doe becomes a level one certified paraoptometric and now is Jane Doe, C.P.O.) A marketable skill is received on-the-job at no cost to the employee except the the certification test itself.
Techs receive two pairs of scrubs and a scrub jacket.
Benefits after 90 days on the job (for full-time employees only):
All major holidays are paid which land during a normal weekday.
Full vision benefits start (with allowance for free exams for immediate family members) with allowance for glasses & contacts for the employee, and discounts for employee's immediate and even extended family.
We don't offer health insurance, but we have 50% health insurance reimbursement up to $100/month.
$100/month daycare reimbursement from a registered daycare.
$100/month tuition scholarship & $200 toward registration fees for up to 2 of employee's children to attend Greeneville Adventist Academy (Christian school behind the old Takoma Hospital).
Benefits after 6 months on the job (for full-time employees only):
20 hours (2.5 days) of paid vacation time starts and builds each year up to 120 hours (15 days/three full work weeks!) and is re-applied on Jan 1st for the upcoming year.
Employees new to optometry qualify to sit for a certification exam (at employee's expense) and if they pass and become a C.P.O. (certified paraoptometric), and they get an automatic $1/hour raise.
*Duties*
- Conduct preliminary testing for patients, including auto-refraction, visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and confrontational visual fields
- Assist with contact lens fittings, training, and instructions
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
- Perform medical coding and billing tasks
- Assist front desk & optical duties when needed, including scheduling appointments and managing patient check-ins
- Support the optometrist during eye exams and procedures and input findings into chart
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Responsible for keeping exam rooms clean and rotate through with the other staff in cleaning all bathrooms approximately once every two months
*Skills*
- Experience in a medical clinic or optical setting is preferred, but not necessary. We offer on-the-job training
- Knowledge of Windows-based programs on a PC is preferred
- Proficiency in typing/keyboarding is required
- Able to carry a small laptop from room to room all day
- Familiarity with optical terminology and procedures can be learned on-the-job
- Strong commitment to customer service is a must
- Ability to work effectively in a busy office setting with other employees as a team to serve patients in an efficient, yet thorough, manner
- Understanding of front desk operations in a healthcare setting is helpful, but can be taught
- Experience working with the public is preferred, but not required
