Position: Special Education Route Driver (District Vehicle – Not a Bus)
Compensation: $17.80 per hour

Description:
The East Union Community School District is seeking a dependable and compassionate Special Education Route Driver to safely transport students with special needs to and from school or other designated programs. This position involves driving a district-provided car or van—not a school bus—and requires patience, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to student safety.
Responsibilities:

Operate a district-provided car or van on assigned routes.

Transport special education students safely and courteously to and from school, programs, or activities.

Assist students in entering and exiting the vehicle as needed, ensuring proper securement of any mobility devices.

Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle environment.

Follow all district, state, and federal transportation guidelines.

Communicate promptly with the Transportation Director regarding route changes, delays, or concerns.
Qualifications:

Valid Iowa driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Must meet Iowa DOT requirements for school transportation drivers (training provided if needed).

Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with students.

Experience transporting students with special needs preferred, but not required.
