Position: Secondary Special Education Teacher

Reports to: Secondary Principal
Position Overview
East Union CSD is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Secondary Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.

Provide specialized instruction in academic, functional, and behavioral areas to support student achievement.

Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and create inclusive learning environments.

Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress, adjust instruction, and communicate results to students, families, and staff.

Support students in developing self-advocacy, independence, and transition skills.

Maintain accurate records, complete required documentation, and meet timelines.

Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, colleagues, and support personnel.

Participate in professional learning and district initiatives to enhance instructional practice.

Promote and model positive behavior supports and safe, respectful learning environments.
Qualifications

Current Iowa teaching license with a Special Education endorsement or the ability to obtain one.

Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.

Strong skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Ability to use technology to support instruction, record-keeping, and communication.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with secondary-level students in a school setting.

Familiarity with co-teaching, MTSS, and inclusive education practices.

Background in behavioral intervention supports and transition planning.
