School-Based Interventionist / Juvenile Court Liaison

The East Union Community School District is seeking a dedicated School-Based Interventionist / Juvenile Court Liaison. This unique role is designated to support student achievement both behaviorally and academically. Operating under the joint oversight of the School Superintendent and the Chief Juvenile Court Officer, the Liaison provides on-site services at the middle and high school levels.

The ideal candidate will work closely with students experiencing truancy, behavioral challenges, or delinquency risks, offering vital intervention services at school, at home, and within the community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Juvenile Probation Services & Caseload Management

• Supervision & Support: Aid in the supervision, counseling, and behavioral tracking of juveniles under Juvenile Court Services (JCS) supervision.

• Compliance & Accountability: Ensure the implementation of all Juvenile Court orders and dispositions for students on your caseload. Administer and monitor substance abuse testing as requested by Juvenile Court Officers.

• Agency Collaboration: Coordinate community and school-based services provided by various agencies to assigned juveniles and their families.

• Reporting: Maintain detailed progress files for each student, tracking behavior modification. Provide formal reports or court testimony on client status when required.

• Summer Programming: Organize and supervise community service assignments and special programming during the summer months.

2. Delinquency Prevention & School Support

• Early Intervention: Counsel at-risk youth to prevent delinquent activity and mediate student conflicts as they arise.

• Education: Provide information regarding juvenile law, school rules, expectations, and the consequences of criminal behavior to the student body.

• Re-Entry Support: Assist students and their families with the transition and re-entry process following out-of-home placements.

3. Communication & Community Outreach

• Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain regular, open communication with school administration, Juvenile Court Officers, and parents regarding student progress or lack thereof.

• Fieldwork: Conduct home and community visits to ensure compliance with school and probation programs.

• Student Transport: Transport children to and from school or program-related activities as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Education & Experience:

• Option A: A Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related social science field (Preferred).

• Option B: An Associate’s degree (AA/AS) combined with a minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience in a human services field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong understanding of Juvenile Court law, processes, and school truancy policies.

• Exceptional crisis-management skills with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Commitment to continuous professional development, including attendance at the annual mandatory JCSL conference and district trainings.

Special Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.

• Must possess a valid Iowa motor vehicle operator’s license.

• Must successfully pass comprehensive criminal background and child abuse record checks.
