- Serves as a school improvement specialist to provide staff development, support, direct and explicit feedback to teachers about the implementation of scientifically-based reading and math programs, instructional strategies, and reading and math assessments.
- Provides support and assistance to all classroom teachers in the full and skillful implementation of the district's adopted reading/language arts/math programs.
- Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded in the program.
- Provides instructional support to teachers.
- Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students.
- Confers with students and when necessary, makes appropriate referrals for crisis intervention, IEP teams, guidance consultation, and/or psychological testing
- Models new teaching strategies and observes program implementation.
- Meets regularly with classroom teachers, principals, and other specialist to collaborate, talk about student instructional needs, and plan for instruction based on progress monitoring outcomes.
- Ensures school implementation of reading and math curriculum with consistency and fidelity.
- Participates in collaborative grade level and/or departmental meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve student achievement.
- Assists grade level teams and/or departments in setting goals for improved instruction.
- Meets regularly with the principal to review assessment data and to assess the outcomes of goals established by grade level teams.
- Attends meetings and trainings as directed and assists in the presentation of training (school-based and leadership).
- Consults with families via conference or communication systems regarding student attendance and behavior.
- Participates in professional development that is relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the School Improvement Specialist position.
- Provides input and assistance to teachers on classroom/student management as warranted or directed by the building principal.
- Functions as a resource for teachers and staff who express concerns for student attendance, student development and/or discipline;
