Job Title: Student Services Manager (Classified Management)

Description Of Basic Functions And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Student Services (or designee), the Student Services Manager leads the coordination and implementation of districtwide strategies that promote positive school culture, strengthen family partnerships, and improve student attendance and engagement. This role ensures equitable, culturally responsive practices across school sites to increase student connectedness, reduce chronic absenteeism, and support student success.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • School Culture & Climate Leadership
  • Lead districtwide initiatives to improve school climate, student connectedness, and sense of belonging
  • Support implementation of restorative practices and inclusive school culture strategies
  • Work with a team to analyze climate and behavior data to guide site and district decision-making
  • Partner with site administrators to develop and monitor culture and climate goals
  • Lead development and implementation of a districtwide attendance strategy aligned to MTSS
  • Monitor and analyze attendance data, including chronic absenteeism and disproportionality
  • Support staff in implementing tiered interventions, including:
  • Attendance Systems & Intervention
  • Lead development and implementation of a districtwide attendance strategy aligned to MTSS
  • Monitor and analyze attendance data, including chronic absenteeism and disproportionality
  • Support staff in implementing tiered interventions, including:
  • Early outreach and family communication
  • Attendance improvement plans
  • Coordination and support for district and site attendance processes
  • Develop and standardize attendance protocols, toolkits, and expectations across sites
  • Collaborate with site teams to address root causes of absenteeism (engagement, mental health, transportation, school climate)
  • Family & Community Engagement
  • Lead and implement a districtwide family engagement framework
  • Develop strategies to increase meaningful family participation, especially among historically underserved groups
  • Coordinate family education workshops (e.g., attendance awareness, student wellness, college/career readiness)
  • Ensure immediate enrollment, school stability, and equitable access to educational services for students identified as homeless.
  • Collaborate with school sites to identify students experiencing homelessness and ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Coordinate transportation, academic supports, and wraparound services to remove barriers to attendance and success.
  • Partner with community agencies, shelters, and local organizations to connect families with housing, health, and social services.
  • Advocate for equitable access to programs including special education, English learner services, extracurricular activities, and college/career readiness opportunities.
  • Build partnerships with community-based organizations to support attendance and engagement
  • Support schools in strengthening two-way communication systems with families
  • Site Support & Capacity Building
  • Develop training and resources on:
  • Family engagement best practices
  • Attendance improvement strategies
  • Positive school culture systems
  • Support site-based teams (e.g., attendance teams, culture/climate committees)
  • Student Voice & Engagement
  • Expand opportunities for student voice, leadership, and connection to school
  • Support development of student advisory groups, peer mentoring, and engagement initiatives
  • Incorporate student input into attendance and culture strategies
  • Data Monitoring & Accountability
  • Monitor key metrics, including:
    • Chronic absenteeism
    • Attendance rates and trends
    • School climate survey results
  • Prepare reports for district leadership and the Board
  • Use data to identify inequities and recommend targeted supports
  • Collaboration & Coordination
  • Collaborate with departments to align work with MTSS and LCAP goals and actions
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to address barriers to attendance and engagement
  • Compliance & Program Oversight
  • Ensure alignment with state and federal requirements related to the McKinney-Vento Act, attendance and family engagement
  • Support implementation of district policies related to student engagement, attendance, and inclusion

  • Strong relationship-building with students, families, and staff
  • Data analysis and continuous improvement
  • Systems thinking and ability to scale practices across sites
