Overview
East River Family Strengthening Collaborative (ERFSC) is seeking a Youth Counselor to support the OST Summer Enrichment Program serving youth ages 5-12. The Youth Counselor will assist with daily supervision, enrichment activities, and ensuring a safe, structured, and positive environment for youth participants.
This position works closely with the Lead Counselor, program staff, and vendors to support academic, recreational, and enrichment programming throughout the summer.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and engagement for youth participants throughout the program day
- Assist with the implementation of educational, recreational, enrichment, and field trip activities
- Support positive youth development and model appropriate behavior
- Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment at all times
- Assist with behavior management using positive intervention strategies
- Support daily attendance tracking and documentation
- Collaborate with Lead Counselor, youth aides, and vendors
- Assist with meal periods and transitions between activities
- Ensure compliance with ERFSC and OST program policies
Experience
- Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of Positive Youth Development principles
- Ability to manage groups and maintain a safe, structured environment
- Conflict resolution and behavior management skills
- Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to lead or support enrichment activities (academic, arts, sports, STEM)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required, College experience preferred
- Previous experience working with youth (camp, after-school, OST, school, or community programs)
- Ability to supervise groups of youth in structured and unstructured settings
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to commit to the full program schedule
Required Clearances & Documentation
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of:
- Criminal background check
- Child protection clearance
- Any additional District or OST-required certifications prior to start date
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with youth for extended periods
- Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds if necessary

Pay: $20.00 per hour
