Title: Custodian
Organizational / Labor Relationship: Teamsters Union – Local 773
Status (FLSA): 12 month position, non-exempt
Reporting Relationships: Ascending – Night Foreman, Head Custodian, Assistant Facilities Director, and Facilities Director. Descending – None.
Position Summary: The Custodian is responsible for the housekeeping and minor maintenance functions in order to achieve maximum cleanliness and upkeep of buildings and facilities.
Qualifications: Education - High School Graduate or GED equivalent
Experience: Documented satisfactory performance in positions requiring moderate strength and physical coordination

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Is able to follow oral and written instruction in order to perform cleaning and custodial tasks
- Is able to process written work orders and complete routine paperwork
- Is able to diagnose and repair minor maintenance items which require the use of basic hand tools
- Is able to independently read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
- PC experience and knowledge of basic software applications required to complete time sheets, operate Facilities Management System, Email, documents, AESOP.
- Building and Grounds Maintenance
- Opens and closes buildings, classrooms and other areas to maintain the security of the building and/or work area
- Performs routine tasks of mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and cleaning floors/other surfaces as assigned
- Remove and clean snow from walkways, steps and other exterior locations as needed
- Conducts routine inspections and reports items in need of repair or servicing
- Receives, verifies and distributes supplies and equipment
- Performs scheduled daily/weekly housekeeping of assigned areas
- Performs periodic preventive maintenance and major cleaning operations of building, grounds and equipment
- Performs necessary work related to special events or rentals
- Maintains all records and reports as directed
- Other
- Performs other special assignments as directed by supervisory personnel
- May serve as foreman or head custodian in the temporary absence of these persons
- Regularly and consistently is present at the work site during scheduled work hour and conducts weekend building checks as assigned
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
- Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas
- Can independently move, transport, lift and carry manually or with mechanical assistance, boxes, books, supplies, equipment and trash receptacles weighing up to 50 pounds
- Can independently climb a ladder and work at a height of at least ten feet
- Can independently reach over the head to retrieve/store items and/or crawl into confined spaces
