JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Youth Advisor, 4pm to 8pm Shift
Department: Homeless Youth Collaborative
Reports to: Case Manager/Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Directly Leads: None
Pay Rate: 18$ Hourly
SUMMARY
The Youth Advisor 4-Bpm shift provides coverage and ensures that youth are safe and secure. Handle emergency and crisis situations as needed. Complete logs and other paperwork as required and as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
- Promote improved basic living skills amongst residents by:
- Assisting residents with basic house cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Facilitating and monitoring menu planning and meal preparation daily.
- Updating chore list and monitor residents' daily, weekly and monthly chores.
- Ensure that residents have access to their incoming mail by distributing mail daily.
- Promote good health, in case of illness and ensure that residents receive the proper medical attention.
Administration
- Ensure that residents comply with program fee requirements and money management requirements by collecting payments monthly.
- Maintain an accurate account of house activities by maintaining a current log book.
- Promote and maintain a clean work environment and ensure that office area and equipment cleaned daily.
- Ensure that the house is cleaned by 8:00 pm by monitoring chores activities.
Modeling Behavior
- Promote positive resident interactions and healthy living environment by:
- Modeling a pleasant and professional demeanor when interacting with residents and staff.
- Initiating conflict resolution intervention techniques to handle conflicts between residents as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
Qualifications:Qualifications include: This position demands a high energy, positive, mature adult who is nurturing toward young adults who are in the process of developing life coping strategies to overcome homelessness. Specific qualifications:
- Three years of experience assisting homeless or low income young adults and working in a supportive housing setting
- Sensitivity to the needs of young adults with multiple issues
- Must be neat, organized, and professional and have good verbal communication skills, (ability to speak extremely clearly) with youth and staff
- Ability to work independently
- Strong leadership skills.
- Able to work during the hours of 4:00pm to 8:pm
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma and three years experience working with young adults with multiple issues.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: English, any second language, especially Spanish, a plus
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: High School level
REASONING ABILITY: Must have the ability to utilize good judgment and
make sound decisions when interacting with youth and staff members. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks to ensure that the youths' needs are met and tasks are complete.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic knowledge of Word and Excel. Able to access and navigate the internet.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to negotiate a flight of stairs daily to access the transitional house. Annual tuberculosis screening required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position requires the ability to work in an environment with youth with multiple issues. The person holding this position requires strong communication skills, alertness and conflict resolution skills. Position also demands a high energy, positive, mature adult who is nurturing toward young adults.
Salary : $18 - $19
