Head Softball Coach
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and visionary leader to oversee the development and management of a comprehensive softball program at the middle school level. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a program that emphasizes skill development, academic excellence, and strong character. This position will require leadership in coaching, operations, and program sustainability with the goal of building a competitive and respected softball program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Leadership
- Establish consistent and detailed documentation for program operations, expectations, and philosophies
- Create and enforce policies and procedures that support long-term program development and success
- Ensure compliance with all NCHSAA, district, and local athletic policies and procedures
- Understand and implement all Athletic Policies as approved by the Board of Education and promote compliance by the entire coaching staff
- Follow proper administrative channels for communication and handle grievances appropriately
- Define and communicate the core philosophy, skills, and strategies to be taught at all levels of the program
- Delegate specific duties to assistant coaches and evaluate performance at the conclusion of each season
- Promote a positive team environment, enforce discipline, and foster team morale and cooperation
- Coordinate with the athletic director for game schedules, travel logistics, and tournament participation
- Manage field usage, equipment needs, and coordination with school maintenance staff
- Support student-athletes in pursuing collegiate softball opportunities through recruiting guidance and exposure
Athletic Development
- Encourage student-athletes to participate in multiple sports and support other school programs
- Incorporate current coaching strategies and safety practices that promote long-term player development and injury prevention
Community Engagement and Program Management
- Foster strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, alumni, and the broader community
- Promote a positive identity for the softball program that enhances school spirit and community pride
Student-Athlete Development
- Mentor student-athletes to achieve their full potential on the field and in the classroom
- Track academic progress and develop individualized academic support plans where necessary
- Encourage leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship through structured character development initiatives
- Foster a positive, inclusive team culture built on mutual respect and shared goals

Education and Experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead a program and manage coaching staff
